An opportunity for students of all levels, this class is ideal for the beginner to explore the medium of water soluble oils and for the advanced artist to really increase their understanding of the medium and enrich their creative process. The basic elements will be examined, exploring the tools to achieve the fluid motion of the medium. This class will focus on allowing the expression of form and movement of the brush, understanding the usage of mixing agents to achieve specific effects and basic compositional skills.

Painting on 4x4" canvas with acrylic and utilizing sea-shells and related items, students will have fun creating beautiful and colorful coral reefs which can be assembled into an attractive collage. Join internationally-recognized pastel artist Colette Odya Smith in this one-day workshop developing landscape-based paintings from photos.  Colette’s pastel paintings have been exhibited widely and featured in numerous art publications throughout the United States and France, where they have received many regional and national awards.  Her work is known for closely-cropped nature imagery that is a fusion of abstraction and representation, particularly of water and rocks. This class is recommended for artists with a basic knowledge of art terminology and techniques.

The Gilded Age with Katherine de Shazer

Join fine artist and iconographer Katherine de Shazer in this one-day workshop designed to introduce students to the techniques of gilding 2D and 3D objects.  Students will work with composite metal leaf to gild their own small 3D objects such as vases, lamps, frames and create 2D projects, such as embellished cards.  (Recommended objects are non-porous materials such as ceramic or glass.  Wooden objects should be pre-painted in acrylic or sealed surfaces.) Instructions will be provided on how to seal finished gilt objects at home.

Create a 5" x 7" journal with coptic binding, painted pages and cover, using a variety of media. A photographic image picked by individual participants will be used to spark ideas for color choices and design of the book.

An Introduction to iPhone Photography

Join us to learn the power you have in your iPhone camera and the fun and serious work you can create. Mark will teach general photographic techniques as applied to the iPhone and then several powerful apps to improve and enhance your images.  Techniques learned can be applied to any Smartphone.
