Join us for this one-of-a-kind metalwork offering with artist Marcia Gora-Patek who has trained with jewelry designer Thomas Mann. Using kits supplied by Mann himself, Marcia will teach you the cold connection jewelry techniques used in his famous designs. Learn to rivet, drill, saw and mold metal into a brooch that will leave you with all of the basics of metalwork.

Students will make a colorful work of art for garden or patio use. All materials will be geared for outdoor use (warmer weather preferable). Start with slumping and molding a raw clay basin for the top of your bath. Erin will fire the piece and have it ready for sessions 2 & 3 with Katherine where you will decorate the piece with tiles, broken dishes, marbles or any other suitable findings that you might have. There will also be glass available to purchase at class.

Explore the wonders of summer—landscape painting in Susan’s backyard. Using your imagination and a vibrant palette, we will experiment with bold brushwork and a palette knife, and apply paint to the canvas “like frosting on a cake”. Oil and acrylic are welcome. (Advanced beginners and above—you will need your own easel) The objective of this class is to paint freely, interpreting the landscape with a focus on color and pattern, and to have fun!!

Oil Painting Basics

Students will learn the importance of developing accurate
value representation of their subject to express light and
form; space and dimension. Students will also be using a master
still life painting as their guide and learning the basic
technique called "Grisaile" to establish the paintings
underpainting and further developing our understanding of tonal
values.
Oil Painting Advanced Basics

This is a continuation of part 1, after having learned how to
establish our tonal values we will be using a "Full Palette" of
oil colors to further our study of establishing value, light
and form. The students will be using a master still life
painting as their guide, an excellent exercise in oil painting.We will be learning from the "Old" mixing in what the students bring forth
to the canvas.
The first 2 classes we will be exploring the landscape from
within the classroom setting.
The students will be studying landscape painting from Art History,
focusing on composition, establishing atmosphere and perspective,
furthering our development on paint application and brush stroke. The 3rd
class, weather permitting, we will step outside and work from life using
what we have learned in the classroom and applying it to our own canvas.
Taking what we have learned in "Part 1" students will head to
the great outdoors! Painting from life, at a site that has yet to
be determined, the students will get a taste of painting in the
style of plein aire. Each class we will paint a new painting,
alla-prima! (bring your own comfortable folding campfire chair
or blanket for sitting)
